John Kanaya's Dandism

I feel the dandyism of John Kanaya. There is a valet service by car on arrival. They will pick you up at your preferred time on your way home and pick you up at your room. There was even a shoe shine service that surprised me. When I asked for it at night, it was carefully wrapped in the morning and delivered. There is also room service for soba and soup for late-night snacks. All of this was inclusive so there was no extra charge. For dinner, they cater to French, ingredients they are not good at. Unfortunately there was a dish that didn't suit my taste, but the wine service was able to help. Breakfast is Japanese, and you can enjoy very high-level ochazuke. It's stylish and fun without a strict dress code.

Quiet and luxurious.

Very quiet, luxurious hotel with only 14 rooms. Fabulous dinner and breakfast. Wonderful inroom Onsen bath. We had an open air private onsen. Expected a typical autumn scenery with trees changing color but a little disappointed. It might be better in spring, with fresh green vegitation.

John Kanaya Hotels

This was my fourth visit, following my first in July this year. It's not too hot and not too cold, so it may be just the right season for a hot spring. Once again, I enjoyed a dinner that lived up to my expectations. The main dish is usually beef, but this time it was duck. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the saltiness and gravy were a taste that I couldn't describe. The fish was a grouper dish, and the texture was similar to pufferfish, and it had a complex flavor that was good. The fish appetizer was a surprise. I was surprised that my wife and I had different plates for our food. My wife had pacific saury, and I had flounder. When I asked why the dishes were different, she said that she had heard that the husband doesn't like blue fish. I don't remember making a clear request myself, but I think she must have been considerate in some conversation. Also, for breakfast, I can't eat poached eggs, but they were topped with pecorino cheese and made it into TKG. We were allowed to sample a variety of wines. The manager told me that red wine goes well with grouper, so I tried it, but unfortunately it didn't suit me. I have an interesting experience every time, so it's a stay that never gets boring. All the staff were very friendly and I was very satisfied. I would like to visit again next year when I receive the member benefits email. The only thing I regret is that there are not many souvenir sweets available. I wish they would have Kanaya Tamago on hand.

A Delightful Time

My husband and I celebrated our end-of-August 48th Wedding Anniversary with the second night of celebrating at this resort. The room had two lovely semi-double-sized beds with a private patio-style onsen bath.
Both the dinner and breakfast meals were very good. If you have any food allergies, inform them when making your reservation. They were very considerate.

Ryokan the western style

My husband booked this resort so I was a bit surprised upon arrival, because I was expecting a traditional ryokan experience. We booked a suite with in-room onsen. It was a spacious room much like a suite of a 5 star western hotel. Dinner was delicate French fine dining with great coffee and chocolate to finish the meal. 2 breakfast choices: western and Japanese. We picked Japanese and it was delicious. Other patrons were all Japanese adults. I guess this kind of westernised ryokan experience is more of a novelty for the locals to experience. Lovely place in itself but wasn't the traditional ryokan I was hoping for.
