A "vintage" experience

We wanted to spend New Year's Eve in Airlie Beach but nothing was found at the last moment, so we fell back on this location about 25 km from Airlie. when we arrived in Proserpine, it seemed to be in a village in the far west, with all the buildings in the main street. we arrived and entered a pub, with the typical customers of the saloon. at first we were a little surprised, but then we went up and it turned out to be a typical hotel of the early '900, with private room but shared bathrooms and kitchen and under the pub. Although not the grand Hotel, we were fascinated by the old style, in fact the 4 points are all for this.

1 night in Proserpine’s ‘ dodgy, dero hotel . A very sad example of what once would have been a beautiful hotel

What an experience !! The advertisement was totally misleading .
1 - No restaurant. We were told the roof had fallen in . We commiserated with the manager only to be told by locals that food hadn’t be available for 7 years !!
2 - The rooms were spacious but 1 night was enough.
3- The kitchen for guest use was disgusting
4- Bathroom facilities were on
par with a poor caravan park quite a trek down an uneven hallway.
We escaped at first light to wait for our train and find coffee and food. The lovely people of Proserpine were very apologetic for this hotel and described it as an embarrassment, dodgy, a dump, a dive and the Dero pub where no one goes to. The town has the potential to be a beautiful art deco town . The hotel could be beautiful if renovated but we were told that it has been sold many times and it has deteriorated each time .

Cheap, but wouldn’t necessarily say cheerful. I didn’t feel particularly welcomed by staff but still managed to have a fun time staying in prosperine regardless.
Room was very large, with a comfortable bed, shared bathroom with one shower - it did the job. There was a basin in the room but with a sign on it saying do not use. We’ve stayed in similarly priced properties on our trip that have their own bathrooms, but like I wrote this does the job, it’s just somewhere to sleep and shower. Was clean for me and the history behind the hotel is pretty interesting, I enjoyed reading about this in the information folder left in the room. Also free wifi and decent wifi at that.
