Only one night and feel a welcoming and enjoyable stay. Staff has been great, location is good and room is amazing.

Very hard-fought review
This review was very complicated because each rating varies depending on the benchmarks you take into account. If you evaluate on the basis of the price paid (for the superior room) the rating is positive, but if you evaluate on the basis of belonging to a 5-star hotel the rating is low.
For this reason I preferred to award three stars (without being too strict, nor too magnanimous).
Let me explain.
The expectation for a “5*” Hotel can only be high and therefore excellent quality is expected in all services.
I begin by saying that the price for a Superior double room for 4 days, which for January 2024 ranged from 720.00 (180.00 per day) paying at the time of booking to 800.00 (200.00 per day) with the option of cancellation until the day before, is a “low” price for the luxury category. So the judgment would be positive: it is less so if you take into account the negative aspects that emerge on the ground.
Here is the detail of the assessment.
LOCATION
POSITIVE ASPECTS
The Hotel is a three-minute walk from Piazza del Duomo: it is practically in the center without the “noise” of the center; extremely quiet street; in front of the entrance the square (which used to be a parking lot) will be used as a garden and therefore the redevelopment of the same will give a plus to the Hotel. Very nice furniture.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS
Common areas (reception, lounge/bar area, breakfast room) too compressed.
SUPERIOR ROOM (room no. 108)
POSITIVE ASPECTS
- Clean and cared for.
- Design furniture.
Excellent soundproofing.
- Comfortable bed and courtesy slippers.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS
(There are various technical solutions that disagree with the hotel category)
- The curtains of the French window have the opening direction from left to right, while the opening door is the right one: this means that if you want to leave the window open you can not close the view of the room from the outside (the curtain risks breaking against the edge of the door) unless you open the curtain, then the left door of the French window (the door without a handle), then close the right door and finally you can close the curtain.
- There is no switch (I tried them all) that allows you to control all the lights in the room directly from the bed: there is only the control of the bedside light and the structure above the bed.
- Space too narrow to access one side of the bed: fridge/herbal teas/drawers column too close to the edge of the bed.
- Electric socket under the bedside table. One of the two bedside tables (the one with the drawer) has a very uncomfortable electrical outlet because to insert the plug of the battery charger you practically have to kneel. The other side of the bed has a bedside table with a very small surface area and no drawer: the different style is fine but when it seems that this solution has been dictated by narrow spaces the result is less fashionable.
- There is no support on which to rest the suitcase to unpack it: the options are to put it on the bed (it is unhygienic) or on the floor (very uncomfortable).
- On the website of the Hotel (https://www.palazzosangiorgiocatania.it/camere-e-suite/superior.html) it is written that the Superior rooms are “all” equipped with a French balcony “overlooking Piazzale Cardinale Pappalardo I or the hotel’s internal garden, embellished by the austere and elegant staircase of Vaccarini”: this is not true because my (n. 108) overlooked via San Tommaso with buildings facing very close. For me it was not a problem, but the news provided on the site is not true.
BAGNO (camera Superior)
POSITIVE ASPECTS
- Aesthetics and cleanliness.
- Large shower with comfortable shelf.
- Delicious courtesy set and professional multi-speed hairdryer.
Very silent flush.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS
(Inattentions and technical aspects)
- Absence of bathrobe.
Shower. Probably the structure is without a water softener. Many nozzles of the fixed showerhead had the classic limestone blockage: it was enough simply to pinch the rubber nozzles to solve the problem, but this very simple operation should be verified and performed when rearranging the chamber.
- Very uncomfortable not to have a support at arm height to store the bathroom necessaire in the sink area. There is no shelf: the only shelf (rather narrow) is the one on which the beautiful sink rests, but it is tremendously uncomfortable to have to lower yourself every time you have to take and store everyday objects.
- There are no support points: for example, where to place the shower towel before entering the shower to have it ready for use (it is not conceivable to store it on the step inside the shower cubicle because it risks getting wet and you are forced to place it on the toilet cover).
- The magnifying mirror is missing (which is even more important if the guest was a woman for obvious make-up reasons).
- Socket for the hair dryer a little 'distant. If this solution were dictated by safety regulations then the hair dryer cable should be a little longer. When you place the hair dryer on the shelf at the base of the sink the plug bends due to the tension of the cable.
BREAKFAST
On this subject there are many things to review being a 5*. In fact, it should be considered that while for the evaluation of the rooms depends everything on the type of room chosen, the evaluation of breakfast disregards this being the same for everyone (even for those occupying a suite of a significantly higher level) and therefore must be absolutely appropriate to the category of the hotel.
POSITIVE ASPECTS
Comfortable seats.
- Modern, essential and elegant design.
- There is also an à la carte menu.
NEGATIVE ASPECTS
Very narrow spaces. Extremely dark drinks corner with excessively heavy containers: lifting the container and pouring the juice becomes challenging. A couple of tables are placed in uncomfortable areas: one very close to the access door to the courtyard and one near the bar counter.
- The quality of the products does not meet the standards of a 5*. I do not dispute the reduced quantitative choice, but the qualitative one that I found rather lacking. Both sweet and salty do not shine by fragrance. In a city like Catania you would expect typical pastry products. In the savoury sector I found only once arancini (rightly mignon) but not hot and a little chewy: always present mini cartocciate whose pasta, however, did not have the typical fragrance of this product; in the sweet sector there were irises (a little too hard) and raviole with ricotta (not fragrant). At least in the à la carte menu would be appreciated an adequate offer: instead there are boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, pancakes, orange or pomegranate juices, espresso coffee, cappuccino, American coffee, tea, hot chocolate. The coffee and cap were good, but the pancake was chewy. I would have liked a proposal of cannoli and cassatine.
RECEPTION

During check-out was not asked if the stay was to your liking and / or there was anything to report.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, in this hotel I would return, but only by booking a Superior room (and if it is important to you expressly ask to overlook the square). Paying more for a Superior Plus, De Luxe or Suite room would not make any sense (if you live the Hotel the strict essential) since many aspects do not correspond to the category of belonging.
For this reason I preferred to award three stars (without being too strict, nor too magnanimous).

Really liked this place, beautifuly decorated spacious room, very comfortable, friendly staff and a really good breakfast. Also located smack in the middle of the places of interest in Catania.

We were only here for one night and picked this hotel because it was close to the airport and we had a 6AM flight. To our surprise, we were within 3 minute walk to the best parts of Catania with good restaurants, lively action, and lots of things going on. The hotel itself was pretty with helpful staff and a much nicer room than we needed for one night and at a reasonable price.

The property is located within walking distance of the centre Catania and near shopping, food and historical sites.
Only issue is that you can hear noise when the centre is busy on weekend nights but not enough to interrupt my sleep.
Staff was very friendly and willing to provide any amenities.
