Iconic hotel

Simply AMAZING !!! One word summarizes my experience. Smacked in the middle of the Old Town , at the center of Kunming city and walking street , what better place to stay if you want to explore the city. The building is in an iconic spot in Kunming for all ages and walk of life to take a picture and stamp their presence. The rooms are located in 2 separate buildings. There are probably about 40 rooms in total , there is a lift in the building although it could get busy at peak times. The standard room is a little small but very functional. The bathroom and toilet is separated with an open washing area. As the building is under conservation , there is no aircon in the rooms except for a ceiling fan which is sufficient except during summer. Floor heating is available and comes in handy during winter. The receptionist was so friendly , helpful and cheerful and she recommend and book the restaurants for us during the trip. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Kunming. So convenient , good value for money and historical.

Cozy Hotel with the Best Location

On a month-long trip around China, Moon & Chalice is the coziest and most tasteful hotel we've stayed at so far.
The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, and with an extra mobile fan, we managed the night's heat easily without air conditioning.
The location in Kunming's old town, with plenty of restaurants and beautiful buildings nearby, couldn't be better.
Every day, the room was cleaned, and we were provided with plenty of water bottles, clementines, tea, and coffee sachets. In the afternoon, a sweet lady brought warm, sweetened tea brewed with various health-boosting herbs.
We were offered round-trip transport to Yunnan Stone Forest for 500 Renminbi, which initially seemed a bit expensive. But after looking into alternatives with DiDi, taxis, and public transportation (the latter taking many hours), we realized it was actually a very fair deal.

Fabulous choice

What a good choice to stay here. Hotel is quaint and in middle of old quarter. We arrived by high speed rail and were confused about getting here by metro and now know Wu Yi Rd on line 3 or 5 is so close and recommend you use that. We dragged bags from Dongfen square which was 20 mins walk.

The hotel is for backpackers who usually stay at Hostel or 1 or 2 star hotels. This is not a hotel for business travelers - no desk. Plumbing issues - clogged drain in the sink. The room had a terrible odor - like there was some type of mold/flooding. The temperature control is limited to 22c. Toilet seats are strange. The common area is not really nice - also had a strange smell, and plastic bags of stuff strawn about behind the desk. The area is right in the middle of a busy market /shopping are - and it could be fun for a young person / backpacker - but there is no sound insulation. Literally the hotel is 2 floors above a main cobble stone road. The staff is very nice, however, I feel that for the price that is adjusted for Kunming's pricing, this hotel was over priced. Do not let the photos charm you, and the reviews are also suspect.

A lovely hotel in a very beautiful historical building. Great location, easy to walk around to have food and enjoy the city.
